The Leidseplein is a square in the centre of Amsterdam that it is known for its lively nightlife. Terraces, theatres and numerous restaurants characterise the square, which forms the Leidse neighbourhood together with the nearby Leidsekruisstraat and the Korte and Lange Leidsedwarsstraat. The square is also often considered a meeting place for both residents of Amsterdam and tourists. There are also many street performers.

Several famous buildings are located both on the square and in the immediate vicinity thereof . The Stadsschouwburg, Bellevue theatre, Paradiso, De Melkweg and the Leidseplein Theatre (known for Boom Chicago) offer the visitors a range of shows and performances.

Together with the grachtengordel, the Leidseplein was constructed in Amsterdam. Initially the square was closed off on the southern side by the Leidsepoort. This was however broken down around 1870. The first stop of the first horse car line in Amsterdam was the Leidseplein. Twenty five year later, in the year 1900, the first electric tram line in Amsterdam departed from the Leidseplein.
