The P.C. Hoofstraat is the most expensive and most elegant shopping street in Amsterdam. Around the corner of Hotel Aalders in the Jan Luijkenstraat one can find the shops of large brands like Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Chanel and jeans brands like G-Star. In addition to the exclusive clothing stores, there are also a few high-priced apartments in the street that is named after poet, play writer and important historian Pieter Cornelisz Hooft.
Famous Dutch nationals love to parade in the pricy stores and prefer to travel in their shiny SUV’s. The P.C. Hooftstraat is also the location for some one-day events like the Glamour Stiletto Run, a running contest over 75 meter, on heals that are at least 7 centimetres high. In 2008 the first PC Catwalk Event took place. A television program was also broadcast on the KRO, named ‘Bij ons in de PC’, presented by Jort Kelder.
A day of shopping or window-shopping is very easily combined with a visit to one of the surrounding museums. The Stedelijk, the Rijks and the Van Gogh Museum are all located in the same vicinity as the shops. The entrance of the Vondelpark is located at the end of the P.C. Hooftstraat.
Amsterdam is not the only city in the Netherlands with its own P.C. Hooftstraat. Breda, Tilburg, Den Bosch, Haarlem and Leiden, amongst others, all have a street or lane with the same name.
